The Bass Trail

The Alabama Bass Trail is an angler’s paradise consisting of five fishing sites located within the Alabama State Park system. The five lakes include Wheeler Lake, Lake Guntersville, Lake Eufaula, Lake Martin and the Mobile-Tensaw Delta. Along the bass trail you will find some of Alabama's finest fishing with many miles of great shoreline and plenty of open water for boat fisherman.

Wheeler Lake
Located at Wheeler State Park

Wheeler Reservoir also called Wheeler Lake, is located 2 miles west of Rogersville, Alabama off of off U.S. Highway 72. This is one of Alabama’s largest reservoirs running approximately 60 miles in length and the fishing is always good. Year-round fishing for Spotted Bass, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, and Crappie. The months of May through July are especially excellent months for catfish that tend to sit in the shallow water near rock bluffs.

Lake Guntersville
Lake Guntersville State Park

Lake Guntersville state park is located on the Tennessee River in Northeast Alabama. The Guntersville Reservoir covers 69,000 acres with natural woodlands, fishing center, beach areas, hiking, nature programs and an 18-Hole Championship Golf Course.

For angler’s Lake Guntersville is known for its largemouth bass but also holds a large variety of other fish such as catfish, crappie, sauger, sunfish and bluegill. Whatever your taste is for fish, you can find it at Lake Guntersville.

Lake Eufaula
Lakepoint State Park

Lake Eufaula is located along the Chattahoochee River, 7 miles north of the City of Eufaula on the Alabama, Georgia border. Home to the Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge, the lake provides activities for all including boating, fishing, hunting, hiking, and wildlife viewing. There is a minimal fee for use of the boat launch ramp and camping is available.

Lake Eufaula has been called the "Bass Fishing Capital of the World" and there are many other types of fish such as Crappie, Large Mouth Bass, Spotted Bass and Stripers. The park hosts fishing tournaments on weekends. Call in advance for information about fishing tournaments.

Lake Martin
Wind Creek State Park

Lake Martin at the Wind Creek State Park is a 41,000 acre reservoir that is ideal for fishing, boating and swimming. The park has a huge campground with over 600 sites.

Over 100 of these sites are perched along the shore for fishing, swimming and boating right outside of your front door. There is a camp store and other amenities such as picnic areas, BBQ grills and a marina. The fishing is excellent and includes catfish, largemouth bass, striped bass white bass, bluegill and sunfish.

The Mobile-Tensaw Delta
Meaher State Park

Meaher State Park features 56 new campsites that have electrical connections (20, 30 and 50 amp) and includes water and sewer if needed. Laundry facilities are available for overnight campers and a picnic area is also open. Meaher State Park is located in the wetlands of Mobile bay and has a boat ramp available.

The Mobile Delta consists of rivers, creeks, bays, lakes, swamps, marshes and river bottomlands. Fishing in the delta is a delight and there is largemouth bass fishing year-round. Many anglers have luck using plastic worms or live shrimp. There is also a large number of Crappie, Bluegill and Redear Sunfish in the delta.
